90% of training is lost without practice, so why waste your money on training that just doesn't stick?

I am inspired by ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. They are selfless, creative, brave, or go against the norm ...

Even ordinary people can inspire others, and you don't have to have achieved your goals first!

People like Mother Teresa, Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr; all of them were ordinary people who decided they would change the world and who, despite nearly impossible odds and tremendous opposition, weren't afraid to try.

"The best thing about this is the 'ordinary' part!"

Of course, they had the ability to be charismatic, but all of them came from poor and difficult backgrounds, and all of them had to climb huge mountains to make their dreams a reality. One of the things they all have in common is that they were both authentic and admired authenticity in others.

You also don't have to be famous or in the news to inspire others. Sometimes the most inspiring people in the world are completely unknown because they are doing their thing locally for something they believe in. Or they are inspiring their teams on a project they all care about, or even launching a new product or service.

"Understand that you can be an inspiration to others, no matter what you feel you have or have not achieved!"

Even if you feel that you have not yet reached the endpoint, and also if you feel like you have reached a low point, you have the ability to inspire. No matter who you are, giving back and inspiring others comes equipped with many benefits. You never know whom you're going to impact when you give, and you never know who might be in a position to reciprocate if you ever find yourself in a time of need.

Giving back leaves a legacy that will live on far longer than you will. You will be amazed at the way inspiring others makes you feel. In fact, it is the only feeling that rivals the one you get when you realise you have achieved your dream.

In my new book, Not A Robot, (to be published next year), Inspiration is one of the primary human skills I focus on. Below are some ways you can make a difference; who knows where it might lead for you and the people around you?

  • Be the change

Don't just talk about it, do it! Be the inspiration, make the change, walk the walk. You have heard it all before, but it's true. Show people who you are as an inspiration. It is one thing to act on that desire to serve as an inspiration, but it is entirely another to live as that inspiration. This all goes back to being authentic.

Follow through with the things you promise, be true to yourself and be proud of who you are and what you have accomplished. This will inspire those around you to do the same.

  • Share your experience

There are reasons why you have achieved what you have achieved so show your journey, the benefit of your experience and the things you have learnt. Tell your story and people will want to hear it. You are bound to receive requests for advice from people who hope to be just like you one day.

Some of these people you will know, some you will not. Provided they are respectful and willing to learn, all are deserving of your time and wisdom.

  • Be a mentor

One of the most significant ways to inspire is to serve as a mentor, but not all mentor/mentee relationships make sense. When considering someone to mentor, you have to make sure that your background and experience align with what they hope to achieve. More importantly, you have to ready yourself to be completely open and honest.

When people look at you as a mentor, they believe in you completely. If you aren't authentic in your advice to them, you are doing them a disservice.

And finally, you probably think that you can only inspire when you have achieved your dream. This is not true as it doesn't matter where you are on your journey, you will be further along than someone else. This person could certainly use your help and advice. To them, you can be a great inspiration. So, when it comes time to give back, there is never a better time than now.
