Have you found yourself saying you're going to do something then never get around to it? You need to beat the lizard first ...
It's amazing how you can get through life and make a career out of being average if you don't beat the lizard!

We all say things like this. "I am going to have guitar lessons", "Let's run a marathon", "I want to start my own business", or even, "I am going to write a blog post called beat the lizard!"
You probably have a vision of the person you want to become, the work you could accomplish, or the perfect future you want for your family, but for some reason, you never get to even give it a go or you put it off until some future time when you have enough, money, time or energy.
"Resistance to the idea is active and relentless!"
And it won't stop until it's prevented you from reaching your most challenging objectives. The lizard is the resistant part of your brain, so you need to find a way to shut it up and not listen to it.
You know the lizard brain is in charge when:
You put off the jobs that are your life's purpose
You put down your own work and ideas
You think you are not capable or good enough to start that business or write that book
You have every excuse under the sun to not do something
It's amazing how you can get through life and make a career out of being average ... the resistant lizard brain is happiest if you do. It is that little voice in the back of your head telling you to back off, be careful, go slow and compromise.
The voice that tells you it will never work, the one that worries that people will laugh at you when you decide to try. The lizard brain will do almost anything to keep you from being noticed.
"All the lizard brain is interested in is eating, staying safe and having sex, because it is all about survival!"
It is our 1st generation animal brain; your Amygdala is the reason for every resistance you feel. The Amygdala is the pre-historic portion of your brain, located near the brain stem. It's the part of the limbic system, which is responsible for processing your emotions and it's responsible for fear, anger, revenge, sex and survival. Yes, you may be comfortable and safe, but thanks to the Amygdala, you never achieve the life you dreamed about.
There is a part of you saying, "go on take a risk it will be great and it doesn't matter if you fail, don't listen to anyone who says you can't", but at the same time, the lizard brain is so much louder it will stop at nothing to keep you safe. It is so powerful, forget any tools to set goals, stay focused or make things happen.
The thing is though, the more we feel this resistance, the more we have proof that it is important to us which why it's there. If it wasn't important, there would be no resistance, because the lizard is not being threatened. We'd all be hurling ourselves off tall buildings and starting fights because we just wouldn't care about staying safe.
So, who do you want to be in charge of your life? The lizard or the more evolved 3rd generation self that wants to create an amazing, inspired life?
You are allowed to make mistakes - that's how we learn and grow and people respect you for trying.
Break things down - start with something easy. Fool the lizard; once you get started it will gather momentum. Commit to something no matter how small to break down the resistance.
Remind yourself why you want it - what gets you excited, tap into your drive and motivation.
Get up early - do one thing that takes you a step closer. Hopefully, the lizard will be asleep.
Visualise success - successful people in the world imaged their success before it happened, and it's not weird or new age its science.
Be brave - yes it feels scary, but it also means the human side of you is awake, so keep yourself awake.
Remember if you feel a lot of resistance then it's important to you, otherwise it would not have woken up the lizard. So, I should practice what I preach! Time to write the blog post I have been putting off writing because I thought no one would want to read it!
